SUMMARY:Assessment Practices for Multilingual Learners
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that nearly 40% of California students speak a language other than English at home? Our state is wonderfully diverse—and this diversity calls for highly skilled special educators. CalECSE is proud to partner with Project MUSE\, the Special Education Resource Lead for students with disabilities who are also English Learners\, to offer a no-cost virtual training on conducting culturally and linguistically appropriate assessments. \nThis session will support special educators in strengthening culturally and linguistically responsive assessment practices for dual language learners. With guest presenters from Imperial County SELPA’s Multilingual Students with Exceptional Needs (MUSE) team\, participants will explore practical strategies for leveraging home language and culture to ensure assessments are valid\, equitable\, and meaningful. \nWho Should Attend: \n\nSpecial Education Directors and Program Specialists\nSchool Psychologists\nSpeech and Language Pathologists\nEducational Specialists\nOther Related Service Providers\nFamily Resource Providers\nRegional Center Staff\n\nWhat You Will Learn: \n\nCulturally and linguistically responsive assessment practices.\nEffective methods for assessing DLLs using home language and culture.\nHow to analyze data to guide instruction and family\ncommunication.\n\nRegister for free HERE \nClosed captioning via Zoom.
